Calvin Harris’ latest single, ‘Blessings’ featuring vocalist Clementine Douglas has sparked quite the debate online this week since it’s release.
Chicane has called out Calvin Harris, claiming he has made a direct copy of his 1996 track, ‘Offshore.’ In a video on Chicane’s Instagram, he showed similarities in the cord progression of the two tracks.
In the video he said, “they’re almost identical, which is a bit of a problem. I am defending my copyright and my intellectual property here guys.”
It seems the debate has people divided, with many agreeing with Chicane, while others say the claim is “a stretch.”
But Calvin Harris has pushed back on the claim, posting his own video to Instagram also lining up the tracks and saying “one – you didn’t invent the guitar. two – it’s not the same.”
Calvin then loop both Chicane’s ‘Offshore’ and ‘Love On a Real Train’ to demonstrate that Chicane may have used the melodies of the 1983 song.
I think it’s all a bit silly really, but we’ll let you decide for yourself on this one!
